Project Goals

Then and Now

The City of Burnaby is committed to preserving the lake and its environment and has developed the Burnaby Lake Rejuvenation Project Plan as a means of improving the lake’s ecological and recreational value. The primary objective of the project is to provide long-term protection and enhancement of the lake ecosystem, fish passage and wildlife habitat by removing sediment that has accumulated in the lake over time through dredging. The secondary objective of the project is to restore the open water area and create better opportunities for rowing activities.

What is Burnaby Lake?

Burnaby Lake, located in the heart of the City of Burnaby, is one of the few remaining lakes of significant ecological value within the Greater Vancouver area. Home to over 400 plant, bird, and fish species, 16 of which are rare and endangered, the lake is also a recreation oasis, with facilities to support the more than 300,000 people who visit each year.
